rclone is a free and open-source command-line program for managing files on cloud storage. It copies, synchronises, encrypts, and backs up files between a computer and remote storage services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, and others. You can learn more about the rclone project at rclone.org.

The rclone application described on this page is a private, self-configured installation operated by the owner of this website. It is for the owner's own personal use only. It is not a public or commercial service, it is not offered to other users, and it is used by a single person (well under 100 users).

Purpose of the application

The purpose of this application is to let its user back up, sync, and manage their own files on their own Google Drive account from their own computer. Typical actions the user performs with it include:

• uploading local files and folders to their Google Drive;
• downloading files from their Google Drive to their computer;
• keeping a local folder and their Google Drive in sync;
• listing, reading, renaming, moving, and deleting their own files.

The application acts only on the single Google account that authorised it. It cannot see or modify any other person's Google account or data.

Why the application requests Google Drive access

The application asks for permission to access Google Drive because that access is required to perform the file operations above. It requests the following scopes, each used only for the purpose stated:

• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive — to read, create, edit, rename, move, and delete the user's own files;
• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/docs — to read and edit the user's own Google Docs; and
• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.metadata.readonly — to read metadata (such as names, sizes, and dates) about the user's own files.

How the application handles your data

The application accesses only the Google user data needed to perform the operations you request. It does not sell, share, or transfer Google user data to third parties, does not use it for advertising, and does not use it for any purpose other than the file-management functionality described on this page. Sign-in tokens are stored locally on the user's own computer. Access can be revoked at any time from your Google Account permissions page.
